Who I am
This website is run by Ciaran Aherne, an independent digital marketing consultant based in Cork, Ireland. I'm the data controller for the personal data described here. You can contact me at hello@ciaranaherne.ie.
Enquiries
When you send an enquiry through a form on this site, I collect your name, email address, your website or business name (optional), the service you're interested in, your message and the page you sent it from. I use this only to reply to you and, if we work together, to manage that project. The legal basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
Form submissions are processed by Netlify, which hosts this site, and forwarded to my email inbox. I keep enquiries for up to two years unless we go on to work together, and I'll delete yours sooner if you ask.
Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records how the site is used: pages viewed, how you arrived, device and browser type, approximate location (city level), and actions like starting or sending an enquiry form. It doesn't record what you type into forms, and Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store IP addresses. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time from the cookies page or the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. Google acts as my processor, and analytics data is kept for 14 months.
Cloudflare Web Analytics also counts page views for every visitor. It doesn't use cookies or identify individuals; it only gives me totals.
Who else processes data
- Netlify: website hosting and contact form handling
- Google: Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (analytics only after consent), and my email provider
- Cloudflare: cookieless page view counts
Some of these providers process data outside the EEA. Where they do, they rely on safeguards approved under GDPR, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
What I don't do
- I don't sell or share your data with anyone for their own marketing
- I don't add you to a mailing list from an enquiry
- I don't use advertising or remarketing cookies
Your rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to access, correct or delete the personal data I hold about you, to object to or restrict how I use it, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@ciaranaherne.ie. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission.
